I live on a farm in the foothills of North Carolina within view of Pilot
Mountain, an ancient guide to Indians and early settlers traveling the
length and breath of the Appalachian Mountains. I work full time as a
pediatric physical therapist. After a busy day working with children and
teachers, the farm is a peaceful refuge where I create my bears and
other furry friends. With our children both away at college, evenings
tend to be quiet - just my husband, myself, and all the pets.
I made my first mohair bear in 1994 and it
was "love at first cut" working with the mohair material. It was not
long before I started creating my own designs for bears and other furry
friends. I love making whimsical bears, traditional old style teds, as
well as bunnies, cats, mice and elephants.
My bears range in size from 4
inches to 24 inches. They are all original designs, fully jointed, and
individually hand sewn. I use English or German mohair and the bears
have either glass or antique boot button eyes. Each bear comes with a
sewn in tag and a signed hang tag. Most of my creations are one of a
kind. Occasionally there may be a small edition of 2-3 pieces.
