| What is my "Personal Web Space" used for?
Personal web space is a secure location on the YVT site where you can set
up and maintain your own web page plus store documents, images and even photos.
Is it secure?
Yes. Your web space is password protected so your files stay safe and secure.
This "administrator" level access is the only way to make changes to the contents
of your files or to the web pages you set up.
How do I access my "Personal Web Space?"
You can reach your personal web space by using your Internet browser, Web
Page Editor, or FTP (File Transfer Protocol). You can also get there by
logging in to myaccount.yadtel.net, where you’ll find a link that will take
you directly to your personal space. The rest of the world can visit your
site by typing your URL (Uniform Resource Locator, also known as your web
address) into their Internet browsers.
Use the following address formats to access your site when:
1. You want to access your files directly from an Internet Browser
using FTP: ftp://ftp.yadtel.net/USERNAME
2. You want your friends/family to see your webpage: http://www.yadtel.net/~USERNAME
3. You want to access a particular folder in your public_html directory:
http://www.yadtel.net/~USERNAME/foldername/
Be sure to substitute the real name of the folder (ex. "images") where it
says "foldername," and always replace "USERNAME" with the username provided
by your ISP.
How do I put files into my web space?
This is done with "File Transfer Protocol" (FTP), which requires an FTP
client, a software program that allows you to put files on the server
(upload), and get files from the server (download).
There are several types of clients available, including stand-alone programs
such as "WsFTP" and "SmartFTP," and software for creating web pages, like
DreamWeaver which have a built-in FTP client.
You may also access web-based FTP software from our FTP site. Our FTP tool
allows you to upload files from your Internet browser without the need for
these third-party programs. Simply go to our FTP site (http://webftp.yadtel.net),
log in with your username and password, choose the folder in which you would
like to put your files and then upload.
What steps do I take to use the web-based FTP tool?
1. Go to http://webftp.yadtel.net
2. Enter your username and password exactly as it was provided to you by
your ISP.
3. There are two folders to which you can upload files. Click the link to
the one you want to use:
- The FTP folder is accessible by anonymous FTP at ftp://ftp.yadtel.net/USERNAME
Be sure to replace USERNAME with your username.
- The "public_html" folder is where you place all of the files and images
that make up your web page. You can allow others to access this folder at
http://www.yadtel.net/~USERNAME.
Once again, replace USERNAME with your username, but be sure to put a "~"
(tilde) in front of your username. Example: http://www.yadtel.net/~bobdoe)
4. Once you are inside your desired folder, you are presented with three
options:
- Upload A File: Allows you to copy a file from your computer to your web
space
- Create A Directory: Organize your web space by creating additional
folders
- Advanced Mode: View important information about your files and change
permissions.
